  • 1949 Gran Premio d'’Italia

    Regular Price:

    $489

Collection: 'HISTORIC FERRARI: Legends of Road and Track 1949 - 1974 (24 posters)'
    Artist: Emilio Saluzzi
Unframed, 100% cotton paper. Limited edition of 280 Dimensions: 97 x 63.5 cms

Coming of Age: No one has stamped his name more decisively on the sporting car scene than Enzo Ferrari, former Alfa Romeo racing manager who dared to dream of building competition cars in his own right. Since Il Commendatore founded his company in 1947, few have rivalled his time-honoured racing record. The incomparable Alberto Ascari, son of famous Alfa Romeo driver Antonio Ascari, reigned supreme among Italian drivers of the third generation and was standard bearer of the nation’s racing efforts. His 1949 victory took place at the Autodromo di Monza, where the Milanese ace was to crash fatally a few years later, at the wheel of his Ferrari 750S.

  • 1951 Targa Florio

    Regular Price:

    $489

Collection: 'HISTORIC FERRARI: Legends of Road and Track 1949 - 1974 (24 posters)'
    Artist: Charles Avalon
Unframed, 100% cotton paper. Limited edition of 280
    Dimensions: 38 x 25 inches (97 x 63.5 cms)

Driving Ambition: the smartest part of the road has always been reserved for the grande marca and by the early 1950s victories in classic endurance races were customary for the fast-emerging Maranello equipe. Racing informed every aspect of Enzo Ferrari’s outlook: “I have, in fact,” said the Padrone, “no interest in life outside racing.” The Scuderia Marzotto Ferrari of Giovanni Bracco and Franco Cornacchia placed second in the 1951 Targa Florio to Franco Cortese in a Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica. “In many respects” wrote noted automotive historian, Michael Sedgwick, “this was Italy’s decade.”

  • 1954 Carrera Panamericana

    Regular Price:

    $489

Collection: 'HISTORIC FERRARI: Legends of Road and Track 1949 - 1974 (24 posters)'
    Artist: Dexter Brown
Unframed, 100% cotton paper. Limited edition of 280
    Dimensions: 38 x 26 inches (97 x 65.5 cms)

Down Mexico Way: a Tipo 375 Plus, piloted by Umberto Maglioli, won the 1954 Carrera Panamericana, a road race marking the construction of the Mexican stage of the Pan American Highway, and run over the mountains and plains of south-eastern Mexico where race authorities ruthlessly reigned in unruly spectators. The sheer brute power of Maglioli’s 4.9 litre 375 Plus assured Ferrari victory in the Sports Car Championship that year. Such was the performance of his car, the light aircraft carrying the Press corps covering the Carrera was unable to keep up with Maglioli, who often attained speeds of 180 mph and more.

  • 1954 Le Mans 24 Hours

    Regular Price:

    $489

Collection: 'HISTORIC FERRARI: Legends of Road and Track 1949 - 1974 (24 posters)'
    Artist: Charles Avalon
Unframed, 100% cotton paper. Limited edition of 280
    Dimensions: 38 x 25 inches (97 x 63.5 cms)

Winning Streak: Froilan Gonzales shared the laurels in Scuderia Ferrari’s 375 Plus with diminutive Maurice Trintignant, most skilled of second-generation French pilotes. Gonzales, second only to his Argentine compatriot Juan Manuel Fangio, was known as ‘Pepe’, or (reflecting his burly stature) the gently comical ‘Pampas Bull’. Maranello’s formative decade was marked by an impressively successful competition record, including Gonzales’ win in the 1951 British Grand Prix and a series of victories in classic endurance races. Ferrari scooped the Sports Car Championship in the 1954 season.

    Dimensions: 38 x 25 inches (97 x 63.5 cms)

Brescia and Back: Eugenio Castellotti in a 3.5-litre 290 MM effortlessly took the honors in the penultimate year of the classic road race. Castellotti’s blisteringly fast drive, single-handed, in torrential rain, was widely admired. The Milanese was followed home by two 850 Monza Ferraris, driven by Collins and Musso. Tall, hot-blooded, and scion of a prosperous northern Italian land-owning family, Castellotti was known as Il Bello (The Beautiful One), hitting the headlines over his romance with stage beauty Delia Scala. A year after his victory, Castellotti, testing a Lancia-Ferrari, crashed at the Esses at Modena with fatal results.

    Dimensions: 38 x 26 inches (97 x 65.5 cms)

Racing the Red: the 100-lap Monaco Grand Prix was won, to the delight of the Monegasque crowd, by popular French pilote Maurice Trintignant in a Cooper-Climax, flagged home ahead of the Ferraris of Luigi Musso and Peter Collins in second and third place respectively. A parade of drivers of race-winning calibre, including Olivier Gendebien, Alfonso ‘Fon’ de Portago, Graf Wolfgang von Trips, in company with Trintignant, Musso and Collins, were signed to Enzo Ferrari. Nothing brings in the big captive crowds to the Principality so consistently as the annual grand epreuve, held on the streets of Monaco since 1929.

  • 1959 Ferrari 250 GT California Spider – Côte d’Azur

    Regular Price:

    $489

Collection: ART DECO AUTOUR DU MONDE

    Artist: Charles Avalon

    Unframed, 100% cotton paper.

     Limited edition of 280

    Dimensions: 97 x 63.5 cms

The Line of Beauty: the fabled Côte d’Azur, the Mediterranean coast of the South of France, provides the perfect backdrop for the covetable 250 GT California Spider. Long favoured by the aristocracy, the Riviera is one of the original ‘Playgrounds of Europe’, irrevocably associated with Le Jet Set. Brigitte Bardot, coquettish French film star and California Spider owner, moved to the modern Riviera resort of St. Tropez in 1958, where her villa, La Madrague, has long exercised a fascination for tourists. Ferrari’s views on women were immovable: “In the motor racing world there is enough complication as it is without bringing women into it to create more.”

  • 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Testa Rossa

    Regular Price:

    $489

Collection: 'HISTORIC FERRARI: Legends of Road and Track 1949 - 1974 (24 posters)'
    Artist: Charles Avalon
Unframed, 100% cotton paper. Limited edition of 280
    Dimensions: 38 x 26 inches (97 x 65.5 cms)

Victory Role: another page in the history of the famous marque was written with the advent of the 3-litre, V-12 250 GT Testa Rossa, developed for the 1958 season. A supremely successful track car, raced by both Scuderia Ferrari and privileged privateers, the 250 GT was a distinguished rarity, bodied by Scaglietti under designer Gian Carlo Guerra, working without drawings and moving directly to a wire framework construction. Musso, Hawthorn, Collins, Von Trips, Phil Hill, Gendebien and Seidel all campaigned the model, leading the way to the 1958 Manufacturer’s World Championship. A true connoisseur’s Ferrari.

  • 1960 Tour de France Automobile

    Regular Price:

    $489

Collection: 'HISTORIC FERRARI: Legends of Road and Track 1949 - 1974 (24 posters)'
    Artist: Dexter Brown
Unframed, 100% cotton paper. Limited edition of 280
    Dimensions: 38 x 26 inches (97 x 65.5 cms)

Full Throttle: the 250 GT ‘short wheelbase’ of Willy Mairesse and Georges Berger was to be victorious in the 1960 GT category of the Tour de France Automobile. The venerable Tour, dating from 1899 in the ‘Heroic Age’ of the automobile, was first organized by the Automobile Club de France in association with Le Matin. Starting at Nice, the 1960 event featured a roundabout route: Mont Ventoux, Nürburgring, Spa, Montlhéry and Rouen before reaching the finishing line in Clermont Ferrand. Belgian pilot Mairesse, one-time Ferrari’s chief test driver, and with a reputation for overstepping the limits of racing, later turned to campaigning big sports cars with some success.

    Artist: Emilio Saluzzi
Unframed, 100% cotton paper. Limited edition of 280
    Dimensions: 38 x 26 inches (97 x 65.5 cms)

Instrumental: the characteristic Cavallino Rampante insignia to the fore in a stylised cockpit study. Of all the 20th century figures to whom the overused term ‘icon’ is applied, Modena-born Enzo Ferrari (1898-1988) is one of the few who truly merit the title. His Who Was Who entry reads, with commendable brevity, ‘builder of racing, sports and gran turismo cars.’ “Enthusiasm and passion,” said the constructor, “not profit or ambition, are the driving force behind racing drivers and the manufacturers of racing cars.” He once famously remarked, “I build engines and attach wheels to them.”

    Dimensions: 38 x 26 inches (97 x 65.5 cms)

A Sunny Place: Bruce McLaren, seen here in the background in his Cooper-Climax took pride of place on the podium in the 1962 Formula 1 race, where Phil Hill’s ‘shark-nose’ Ferrari was runner up, and Lorenzo Bandini’s car placed third. Hill was sold his first Ferrari by US concessionaire Luigi Chinetti at a knockdown price. “I look” said Chinetti, “for the spark in a man who could be tomorrow’s world champion.” Hill, the first American to win the World Championship, spoke good Italian and, during the race season, lived near Ferrari’s test circuit at the Reale Hotel, Modena. Pictured in the background is the Hotel Miramar, now no more.
